Faximum Messaging Software

This entry describes the relationship between the various packages that make up the Faximum Messaging Software product family.

Faximum Messaging Gateway (FMG)

The FMG package is an add-on product for existing fax servers to enable them:

• to accept email messages for delivery by fax; and
• to deliver received faxes by email.

While the FMG has obviously been tuned to work well with Faximum's premier fax server products (Faximum Client/Server and Faximum PLUS), it has been designed to be easily adapted to work with almost any fax server. If you are interested in using the FMG with a non-Faximum server, please contact us for additional information on how to integrate your fax server with FMG.

For customers who want to enjoy the functionality of the FMG product but who do not have an existing fax server we recommend the Faximum Messaging Server (FMS) product below.

Faximum Messaging Server (FMS)

The FMS product closely integrates the FMG product with a basic fax server engine. This combination provides a capable integrated messaging facility that is easier to configure and less expensive to acquire than FMG with a separate fax server package.

FMG vs FMS

FMG (on top of Faximum Client/Server or Faximum PLUS) delivers the ultimate in functionality while FMS provides a cost-effective integrated messaging solution that gives up some features in order to achieve a product that is less expensive and less complex.

Some of the features FMG (on top of a Faximum fax server) supports that are not in FMS are:

• advanced accounting (i.e. the ability to charge faxes to specific client or project accounts)
• advanced scheduling, automatic delayed long-distance faxing, and least-cost routing -- FMS sends all faxes as soon as possible
• multiple coversheet styles selectable on a per-message basis -- FMS supports a single coversheet design for all users

SWIIFT

Faximum's SWIIFT (Suite of Web and Internet/Intranet Fax Tools) product was the precursor to the FMS product. SWIIFT was designed to be an add-on product to run on top of an existing fax server while FMS was designed to integrate the basic SWIIFT functionality with basic fax server functionality.

In order to reduce confusion caused by the radically different product names (SWIIFT and FMS) but very similar functionality (and indeed source code heritage), the SWIIFT name has been retired and the SWIIFT 2.0 product has been renamed the Faximum Messaging Gateway (FMG).

Owing to the timing of this change late in the development of the FMG 2.0 product, there are still many places where the SWIIFT name may appear.
