The Class Database

The class database controls the scheduling of outgoing fax requests. The class determines the real priority of the transmission by adjudicating the tradeoff between speed and cost.

The Fax System Administrator assigns each user the right to use one or more classes. A user may choose from the classes that are assigned, if there is more than one.

The class of service controls which Dialing Rules may be used.

The class records include the following fields:

• Class Name - Must be unique
• Deadline - The maximum time, in minutes, allowed to schedule this request. See The Fax Scheduler.
• Try Alternate - Number of retries on primary number. See also, Automatic Retry Options.
• Trunk Group Set- Set of fax lines which may be considered for transmission using this class. The dialing rule determines which line is actually used. The name of each trunk group is defined in the Fax Line database.
• Batch Requests - (Y/N) Y=Permission to combine this request with another. Batching is useful when sending to regular FAX machines as it can save cost by transmitting several faxes in one call rather than in several separate calls.

  When sending faxes to other Faximum users, it is advisable to avoid classes of service for which batch requests are enabled. The use of call-batching under such circumstances will cause faxes to be bundled together and treated as a single fax. Users should be made aware of the classes that have call batching enabled and should understand when to avoid using those classes.
