The Tariff Database

The Tariff database contains information about telephone call costs. The Dialing Rule database references entries in this database to indicate costs associated with calls to certain areas placed on certain lines.

Only the Fax System Administrator has access to these records, which contain the following:

• Rate Code 1-8 - Identifies a rate. This field is for your reference only and may contain any string.
• Rate Cost 1-8 - The relative cost per unit time on that phone line.
• Rate Changes - (Y/N) Y = rate will change during the call if the call spans more than one tariff. N = the rate in effect when the call is placed is effective for the entire call.
• Rate Schedule - Indicates the Tariff Rate Schedule for various times and days of the week. This matches the above rates to actual times of the day.

The fact that Rate Cost values specify relative costs gives you a lot of flexibility in the way that you identify your rates. For example, if your phone line has no discount during the day and 50% discount during the night, you could specify two rates of 100 and 50. Likewise, if one rate is $0.75 and the other is $0.35 you could specify two rates of 75 and 35.

The highest number identifies the most expensive rate. Faximum ignores Rates with a Rate Cost of 0.
